Are you a licensed massage therapist?

I am a Certified Massage Therapist from The Boulder College of Massage Therapy and have passed the National Certification Exam (National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork). Currently, the State of Colorado does not require an additional state licensure. I do have a business license within the City of Boulder.

How much does massage therapy and bodywork cost?
The cost of your massage session varies upon the session length and the location of the session. Discounted packages of massages are available.  You may view my fee schedule here

Do you accept insurance?
At this time, I do not bill insurance companies. If massage is covered by your insurer, I will gladly provide you with a receipt which you can send for reimbursement.

Do you accept credit cards?
No. I accept cash and personal checks for payment at the time of service.

How much time should I schedule for my massage therapy session?
An hour long session is a good place to begin if you are unsure. This typically allows time to address specific problem areas while incorporating the entire body.

What do I wear to a massage therapy session?
You may undress to your level of comfort. You may wish to undress completely or leave on some or all of your clothing. It is of utmost importance that you are comfortable. You will be covered by a sheet throughout the session except for the area being worked on.

Does massage hurt?
Massage should not hurt. Even Deep Tissue Massage and Neuromuscular Therapy should not hurt. When taken to the point of pain, your body starts to fight back negating the effects of the massage and potentially doing more harm than good. I use a pain scale to communicate about pressure and encourage you to provide feedback throughout the session.

Should I tip?
Tipping is appreciated but not expected.

What should I do after the massage?
After receiving a massage, it is highly recommended that you drink plenty of water (~64 oz. per day), take it easy and follow any post massage instructions given to you during the session (like stretches or exercises). If you have received deep tissue work, your muscles may feel sore or tender for a 24-hour period after your session. To decrease the amount of tenderness, place an ice pack on the area for 10 minutes every 2-4 hours. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call my office.

Can I workout after the massage?
I strongly encourage you to take it easy after the massage, if you can. Your muscles need recovery time after receiving massage, much like they do after a workout. After a massage, your body may be feeling less tense, more flexible and with greater range of motion. In this state, it is incredibly easy to over do it. If you are planning to workout later in the day, please let me know. I will adjust the session as we feel necessary.
